The group ”Freundeskreis ECHINOPSEEN” aims at deepening and propagating knowledge about Trichocereus, Echinopsis, Lobivia, Rebutia, Sulcorebutia, Weingartia and similar species of the South American mountains.
These genera were dealt with in the old West Germany (and some other countries) in the round robin “Lobivia and Rebutia”, and, since 1981 in East Germany, in “ZAG ECHINOPSEEN” (Zentrale Arbeitsgemeinschaft ECHINOPSEEN). There were furthermore many individual contacts. In October 1992, in the small city of Ruhla in the thuringian forest, on the initiative of members it was decided to merge the various groups. The “Freundenkreis ECHINOPSSEN” (circle of friends ECHINOPSEEN) was created as a working group of the Deutsche Kakteen Gesellschaft (DKG; German Cactus Society).
