This article was published in 1899 in Contributions from the United States National Herbarium, vol. 5, No 4. It deals with many genera and species, including Cacti, Agave, Yucca, etc. and their use as food, beaverage, medicine, soap, fibers, fence, brush, etc. Illustrated by many B&W plates of the nineteenth century, this is a very interesting document half way between botany and anthropology.
NB: A short note on Agave is found p. 151-157.
Right: Pulque plant or Maguey (Agave atrovirens Kar.)
