why does my cactus leaves' tip dry off?

hi there mr/miss cactus expert,

my cactus was a gift.i think it was bought in a market. now,after few months of it,my cactus leaves~ tip of them is dry..i kept putting water on it on regular basis and got enough sunlight(not direct sunlight,perfect)is it the reason that i put too much water or hw can i water it so that its leaves will return to perfect condition?and how many times should i water the cactus in a week?and what time of the day?please advise...thanks. im ignorant with cactus. so please don't laugh.thats y im seeking for answers in this cactus forum.

A picture of your plant would really help !

As Marck says, a picture would definitely help as without knowing the genus or species, it is hard to comment or advise! The fact that you mention 'leaves' means it may not be a cactus at all.
