Hello folks,
A quick reminder of our free

Buck and Yvonne Hemenway present
Plant Discovery in South Africa Registration Link
As plant lovers know, there is nothing as fulfilling as seeing a plant growing happily in nature whose cousin has been carefully nurtured in a collection. We all marvel at the ability of succulent plants to survive, even thrive in conditions that appear to be so extreme that survival alone is incomprehensible. Of course, most of us do not speak plant, so we will never know how a seed started growing in that crack in the rock.
Please join Buck and Yvonne as they explore South Africa and find plants, mostly succulent plants, growing in some interesting places.
A Short Biography of Buck Hemenway
Buck Hemenway and his wife Yvonne are enthusiastic growers of succulent plants. Their one-time hobby turned into the Prickly Palace nursery, which supplied cacti and succulents to the retail nursery trade in Southern California for 15 years. He is past president and lifetime member of both Gates C&S Society and San Gabriel Valley C&S Society and served for 10 years on the board of the
Cactus and Succulent Society of America. They are long-time members of the
British Cactus and Succulent Society and the Succulent Society of South Africa.
Both are “Northern” people. Yvonne is Canadian and Buck was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. They traveled to southern Africa on several occasions, visiting southwest Namibia as well as the Karoos in South Africa. They have a continuing love affair with South Africa and have purchased property there and are living in Calitzdorp in the Klein Karoo. They saw the need for a Succulent Club in their area, so formed tte Calitzdorp Succulent Society with the help of several friends there. The Society now produces Vetplantfees, Afrikaans for Succulent Plant Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors and hungry buyers from all over southern South Africa on the third weekend of September in all years except Covid ones.
