A few flowers
November 14, 2009 09:21PM
This time of year there are only a few plants blooming. In a month or 2 there will be Rhipsalis, Aloes and some early Mammillarias that will bloom. Clivias and citrus also bloom in the winter, but that truly is salad isn't it. Here are some photos from today.

Micranthus, always cute when they bloom.

Some Mammillarias from seed. These all come from the same fruit, but the characteristics vary wildly. I originally grew a dozen plants, then kept these 4 because of their diversity. The little one hasn't grown much, maybe it is time to separate them.

Crassula mucosa. This one has tiny blooms and they smell like decaying cloth. After bloom, they fall apart and even a tiny piece 1cm long will root and grow.

Mammillaria hahniana. This one blooms most of the year, with a bigger group of flowers in the spring.

Senecio bloom. Many succulent Senecios bloom in the winter, usually in yellow.

This is the bud on Aloe braanddraiensis.

Aloe afinis.

A. immaculata.

One more, one of my favorites, Aloe praetoriensis.

There are more, but this is more than enough.

With the actual weather conditions, there are less ans less pictures here.
It would be interresting to see the flowers after the buds ! clin d'oeil

Hi Manu. Thanks. That first photo should be Micranthocereus densiflorus.
Yes, this time of year is a bit grey here too. As it is, I planted one of the Aloes a plein terre (sort of) in the greenhouse at the botanical gardens. I've donated several that they added to their collection. I volunteer there. Today I had the pleasure of cutting down 4 large Euphorbia trigonas, about 3.5 meters tall.MdR, PdR (lol) There is one more left as a specimen.

This is common Crassula ovata in bud.

This is another Rhipsalis.

Yes, Jeanne, it is the time of the epiphytes. But it is also time for many Aloes to bloom, and many Crassulas also bloom now for me. Temps. here are mostly about +2C in the day and -4C at night. For us it has been a warm winter with little snow.

Crassula lactea. The flowers stink.

Aloe conifera.

My Rhipsalis something. There are 3 species in this pot.
